Now that five individuals have been indicted in the murder of Melvin
“Lil Phat” Vernell III, added details are beginning to emerge in the
intricate murder case.
According to AllHipHop.com,
prosecutors claim that Lil Phat was killed due to a $10,000
murder-for-hire plot involving the five men being indicted. Among those
individuals is a former Russian mobster who denies involvement in the murder and rapper/alleged gang member, Gary “El Dorado Red” Bradford.
Prosecutors also claim the murder-for-hire plot was orchestrated by
Bradford and San Francisco State University point guard Decensae White
after they received word that Lil Phat may have stolen 10 pounds of
marijuana from them.
Indictment papers filed earlier in the year state that all five of
the men involved in the fatal shooting, “unlawfully, while associated
with a criminal street gang, participate criminal gang activity through
commission of an offense.”
It was a little over a year ago when Lil Phat was fatally shot while
in a parked car outside of Atlanta’s Northside Hospital in June 2012.
Prior to his passing, Lil Phat was signed to Trill Entertainment and appeared on songs with Yo Gotti, Webbie, and Paul Wall.
